I believe when picking the best layout for the kitchen will comes naturally when you look at the whole circulation of the dwelling. Does the U Shaped Benchtop design work? Or does the L Shaped Benhtop is better? How do people walk around or get to the kitchen? Is it too far or too close to the kitchen? Is it too far from the entrance or garage? Is there enough space or am i wasting alot of space? It's always a case by case scenario. And sometimes you dream about having a L shape kitchen but maybe it will not work because of the dwelling space is not sufficient. Don't pick the layout based on what you want, but pick based on what is best for you. if... that makes sense LOL
Now let's look at possible kitchen layout and each advantages & disadvantages
I or H Style Kitchen
Advantage
- Great for a narrow dwelling
- Uncomplicated design layout
- All equipment and tools are close
- Easier to organised
- Simple designing
- Suitable for open kitchen
Disadvantage
- Requires length to fit all the essential equipment when island bench is not installed
- When island bench is not installed, it doesn't provide a good separation of work space
- Tight storage space
- All appliances is visible when island bench is not installed and it can effect the visual
L Style Kitchen
Advantage
- Great for small dwelling
- Gives a separation of work space
- Gives flexibility of circulation
- Great to allocate a dining table in the open space when island bench is not installed
- It gives multiple entrances
- Great for corner kitchen
- Suitable for open kitchen
Disadvantage
- Multiple cooks might be tricky if there is no island bench space
- A little harder to organised things with equipment and tools
- All appliances is visible when island bench is not installed and it can effect the visual
- Cannot add appliances in the corner under bench.
U Style Kitchen
Advantage
- Great for medium and large dwelling
- The cooks will not be disturbed while working
- Gives plenty of bench space to work
- When island bench is installed it gives multiple entrances
- Great if dwelling has it's own kitchen room space.
Disadvantage
- The design of this kitchen can be complicated to layout things.
- When designed really bad... it can looks really really really really bad...
- Sometimes there is too much spaces that can lead to a dead & wasteful space.
- It can be more expensive
- When island bench is not installed it will feel cramped
- Hard to design for open kitchen
- Cannot add appliances in the corner under bench.
